Theory of the body of osteopathic students ? Pilot protocol for a phenomenological exploration of osteopathic students' representations and theories of the body

Abstract

In a paradigm of learning (Jouquan & Bail, 2003) rather than teaching, students are not considered as empty heads that need to be filled with new knowledge. Nor are learners arriving on an osteopathic course empty-handed with sensations, perceptions and representations. It would seem important to be able to know their pre-constructed beliefs. How can we explore or better excavate existing representations or theories of the body to better co-construct future professional healthcare action (Parent et al., 2018) in relation to perceptual skills (Paintendre et al., 2019)? What are students' prior knowledge of key elements of the osteopathic curriculum; their body, touch and the patient's body?
